Amina’s Small Kitchen
In a quiet village far away from the noise and rush of the city, there lived an old woman named Amina. Her small house stood at the edge of the village, surrounded by dusty paths and a few tired olive trees. Time had left its mark on the house — its walls were cracked, the roof creaked when the wind blew, and the kitchen looked worn from many years of use.
But for Amina, that little kitchen was the heart of her world.
Every morning, long before the sun rose, Amina would slowly get out of her old wooden bed and walk to the kitchen. The floor was often dusty, the stove was old, and the shelves were filled with simple pots and dishes that had been with her for decades. Life had not been easy for Amina. She had lost her husband many years ago, and her children had moved far away to search for work.
Yet, she never allowed sadness to take over her heart.
Instead, she believed in something very simple: small efforts can change life little by little.
One cold morning, as the wind whispered through the windows, Amina stood in the middle of her messy kitchen and looked around. The floor needed sweeping, the table was covered with dust, and the sink was full of dishes.
So she picked up her old broom and began sweeping slowly. Her back hurt, and her hands trembled with age, but she kept going. After cleaning the floor, she wiped the table carefully with a small cloth she had used for years.
It did not look like much had changed, but to Amina it was a small victory.
Days passed, and every morning she continued the same routine. One day she cleaned the shelves, another day she washed the windows, and another day she organized the old pots that had been forgotten in the corner.
Sometimes, at night, a few mice would run across the floor looking for crumbs. At first, Amina felt frustrated, but instead of giving up, she cleaned even more carefully. She stored food properly and swept every corner of the kitchen.
Slowly, the mice stopped coming.
Weeks later, the kitchen looked very different. The floor was clean, the shelves were organized, and sunlight from the small window filled the room with warmth.
For the first time in a long while, Amina smiled proudly.
One afternoon, a little girl from the village walked past Amina’s house. She smelled something delicious and curiously knocked on the door.
Amina opened it with a warm smile.
“Hello, little one,” she said gently.
The girl looked shy but curious. “I smelled your cooking from the road.”
Amina laughed softly and invited her inside. She served the girl a bowl of warm soup made from vegetables she had grown in her small garden.
The little girl tasted it and her eyes lit up.
“This is the best soup I’ve ever eaten!” she said happily.
Amina’s heart filled with joy.
From that day on, neighbors began to visit her small house from time to time. Some came to taste her simple meals, others came just to sit and listen to her stories.
Her kitchen, once tired and messy, became a warm place full of laughter and kindness.
Amina never became rich, and her house never turned into a big modern home. But something more important happened: her small kitchen became a symbol of hope in the village.
People often asked her how she managed to stay strong despite all the hardships in her life.
And so, in that small house at the edge of the village, the old woman continued her simple life — cooking, cleaning, and sharing warmth with those around her.
